LATE SEASON UPDATE
January is always the hottest month of the season. Thats being punny but honestly, we love January hunting as it produces good weather, the calendar migration is already here, and the birds are full plume.
So far, the beginning of the month was a little stale. There was minimal precipitation other than in the evenings. Once the rain hit birds were on the move. As we near the end here in the PNW we were graced with cold dry weather. This froze sheet water and forced birds to start congregating in larger groups. With mornings in freezing temps and the evenings in a thaw, we have a unique opportunity to hunt birds on open water in the morning and fields in the afternoon.
Our last weekend of hunting produced solid numbers of birds, and you can't beat ducks in the sunshine. Good luck to you all in the home stretch.
Hope you all have a Happy New Year and are eagerly looking forward to next season!
God bless,
John
